MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (April 23) - Holding a slim 4-3 advantage midway through the second period, homestanding Wesleyan (11-4, 8-2) methodically pulled away from Conn. College (9-6, 5-5) in men's lacrosse action en route to a 16-7 victory here today to lock up the second seed in the NESCAC tournament which starts Sat., April 26. Wesleyan will host Conn. College again as the Camels are seeded seventh in the tournament.
Cardinal senior Graham Macnab posted five goals in the contest while junior Quentin DellaFera picked up three goals and two assists for a five points game as well.
Wesleyan outscored Conn, 5-1, in the third period to open up a 12-5 lead heading into the final 15 minutes.
Sophomore Jackson Arnold netted his first career hat trick for the Cardinals for Wesleyan, ranked 18th nationally in Division III.
Connecticut College got four goals from junior Briggs Barton, upping his season total to 29, ranking second on the Camels. Also with a four-point game behind a goal and three assists was top scorer junior Derek Bertolini, who had 60 points on 19 goals and 41 assists, while senior JR Hartgers also had three assists in the Connecticut College cause. Camels top goal-getter junior Tyler Hegarty had a pair of tallies for 34 on the year.
Prezioso leads Wesleyan with 43 points (32-11-43) with DellaFera in second at 33 (28-5-33) and MacNab third at 31 (21-10-31).
Wesleyan starting keeper junior Justin Schick had nine saves while allowing five goals in 54 minutes of action. Freshman Red Bergman had two saves and two GA in the final six minutes.
