FREDERICKSBURG, Texas – The Connecticut College men's tennis team completed an undefeated opening day of action on its spring break trip to Texas by defeating East Texas Baptist, 6-3, on Monday evening.
Eight different Camels factored into the victories over the course of the day. Seniors Will Cannon (Fairfield, Conn.) and Johnny Cissel (Amherst, N.H.) snuck past John Herr and Adam Morris, 8-7, at No. 1 doubles and sophomores Brandon Ameglio (South Portland, Maine) and Walter Komishane (Manchester, Mass.) teamed up to win by a more convincing 8-4 decision from the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Guillermo Garcia Rincon (Cáceres, Spain), freshman Julian Tien (Barrington, R.I.), sophomore Henry DeCoster (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman Sean Jenkins (Davidson, N.C.) were all triumphant in their respective matches. DeCoster most notably outlasted Tyler Howard at No. 4 singles by scores of 6-0, 4-6, and 6-2.
Connecticut College (2-1) will take its two-match winning streak to Georgetown, Texas when it next faces Southwestern University on Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. CST (6:00 p.m. EST).
