Men’s Cross Country Places Fifth at NESCAC Championships

Danny Aschale

BOSTON, Mass. – Led by junior Danny Aschale (Cambridge, Mass.), the Connecticut College men's cross country team placed fifth among 11 schools at the NESCAC Championships on Saturday morning at a wet and windy Franklin Park.

By having all five of its finishers scoring in the top 25, Amherst captured its second consecutive team crown with 60 points. Williams placed second with 86 points, while Middlebury was third with 88 points. Bates (111), Connecticut College (148), Bowdoin (156), Tufts (159), Colby (185), Trinity (241), Wesleyan (276) and Hamilton (285) completed the field.

Aschale finished in the runner-up position individually by navigating the 8,000-meter course in 25:29.0 to pace the Camels. He finished less than two seconds behind Williams' Ryan Cox, who won the individual title by hitting the tape in 25:27.8. Senior Scott Mason (Chestnut Hill, Pa.) placed seventh overall and second on the team in 25:53.4, and classmate Price Day (Harvard, Mass.) broke through for an 11th-place finish in 26:02.8. Senior Russell Adam (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Josh Simensky (Falmouth, Maine) were 74th and 98th, respectively, and rounded out the team's top five by punching in times of 27:18.6 and 27:44.4.

For the first time in program history, the Camels produced three student-athletes who garnered all-conference recognition for their individual efforts. Aschale and Mason landed on the All-NESCAC First Team for the second straight year by placing among the top seven individually. Day, meanwhile, earned All-NESCAC Second Team laurels for cracking the top 14 in the overall field of 150 racers.

Connecticut College will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10 when it competes at the New England Regional Championships.
