NCAA Championship Round 2: McDaniel College 3, Connecticut College 1

WESTMINSTER, Md.--Alex Baltazar  (Ludlow, Mass.) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the 84th minute of play but it was not quite enough as the McDaniel College Green Terror held on to take a 3-1 victory against Connecticut College in the second round of the NCAA Championship today.

The Camels (10-6-2) close out another terrific season by reaching the second round of the NCAA Championship for the second time in the past three years. Powered by a pair of second half scores from Kirsten Gibson coming 2:35 apart from each other, The Green Terror (18-2-1) move on to the third round of action next weekend.

The Camels held a 3-1 advantage on the shot chart in the opening half and enjoyed an 8-7 edge in the game. The Green Terror accounted for the lone score in the opening half with an own goal in the 29th minute of play. In the second half, the hosts were able to free up Gibson for a pair of goals  in the 72nd and 75th minute. The Camels continued to battle back and trimmed the deficit to 3-1 when Baltazar chipped one in from the 18 yard line with 6:43 remaining.

But the McDaniel defense was able to keep the visitors off the board the rest of the way.

Bryanna Montalvo (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished with one save for the Camels. Sarah McDonald stopped three shots for the hosts.

It was the final collegiate game for the two members of the Camel Class of 2017, Amanda Proulx (Smithfield, R.I.) and Katelyn Murray (Medfield, Mass.), who posted an impressive 32-25-10 (.597) record over the past four years, hoisting the College's first NESCAC Championship in 2014 and securing two wins in NCAA Championship play.
