MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior Olivia Vener (Marblehead, Mass.) and junior Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the pentathlon at the Cupid Challenge hosted by Tufts University on Friday evening.
Vener placed third among nine competitors and second among Division III student-athletes with a personal-best 2,881 points to lead the way. She most notably notched her best marks as a collegian by registering a toss that traveled 28-feet, 5.50-inches in the shot put, leaping 15-11.50 in the long jump, and finishing the 800-meter run in 2:30.28.
Kennedy was almost as equally as impressive by racking up 2,853 points, which was good for fifth overall. The junior, who holds the school record in the event, recorded the second-best long jump mark for leaping 16-8.50 while also matching the best high jump mark in the field by clearing the bar at 4-9.
Connecticut College will continue competing at the Cupid Challenge tomorrow morning and afternoon.
