Trio of Athletes Lead Women’s Track & Field to Seventh-Place Finish at NESCAC Championships

Sarah Clark Erin Fitzpatrick

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Junior Koko Mensah (Orange, N.J.) and senior Emily Senatore (Norwell, Mass.) each won an event as the Connecticut College women's track & field team placed seventh at the NESCAC Championships with 48 points on Saturday afternoon.

Mensah, who entered the weekend as the owner of the nation's fourth-best mark in the shot put, won her premier event with a toss that sailed 44-feet, 11.75-inches. She also racked up eight additional points for the Camels by posting a runner-up finish in the discus with a throw that traveled 126-8.

Senatore broke her own school record in the discus by launching the frisbee 143-11. She won the event by eclipsing her own school record of 142-3, which she recorded at the Tufts Snowflake Classic on March 30. The senior captain also registered a fourth-place mark of 138-5 in the hammer throw.

Like Mensah and Senatore, senior captain Shannon Kennedy (East Longmeadow, Mass.) also scored in a pair of individual events. The heptathlete finished third in the long jump, leaping 17-1.25, as well as seventh in the 100-meter high hurdles by hitting the tape in 15.54 seconds.

The Camels also got a strong effort from its 4x100-meter relay team. Junior Haley Vanty (Berlin, Conn.), freshman Erin Fitzpatrick (Sterling, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) and senior Ivana Lamptey (Leicester, Mass.) combined to navigate the track in 50.71 seconds, which  was good for fifth place overall.

Connecticut College will next send its top student-athletes to compete at the New England Division III Championships. The three-day event will be hosted by Williams College between May 2 and May 4.
